Panthers gelling

TEXARKANA – The Benton Panthers picked up an important road victory on Tuesday night upending the Arkansas High Razorbacks 58-42 in Texarkana.
“I’m very pleased our guards are coming along,” Benton Coach Dwaine Fishburn said. “In over 25 years, I’ve never coached a team that has this low turnovers as this group has. We’re only averaging five to six turnovers a game and that’s remarkable.”
Benton (12-5, 3-1 South) would lead 12-9 after the first quarter before expanding their lead to 30-17 over the Razorbacks at halftime.
“They were in a 2-1-2 (defense) and our guards really attacked well,” Fishburn said. “The big key was our transition offense. We got the ball out in the lanes and we attacked the basket well.”
The Panthers led 43-28 after three quarters as senior Josh Bowling led Benton with 21 points, sophomore Cason Maertens had 16, senior forward Blake Bowling 10, and senior guard Tarek Beaugard and sophomore guard Clay Anderson scored six each.
“You’re hoping this time of year you’re starting to gel,” Fishburn said. “We’re starting to move the ball better and I’m pleased that our guards and forwards are starting to come together.”
The Panthers will look for their fourth conference win when they host Lake Hamilton on Friday night at Benton Arena.
