Phyllis Rickard Peters, 73, of Benton passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 12. She was born Jan. 10, 1940 in Paron.
Phyllis graduated from Benton High School in 1957 and went on to get her master's degree in education. She was a retired teacher and reading specialist in Louisiana, and was employed as a tutor by the Boys & Girls Club of Saline County. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ringgold, La. She also was a member of the Louisiana Association of Educators, Caddo Association of Educators, and Pi Beta Phi.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Zollie and Rosa Lee Rickard of Paron.
She is survived by her son, Jay Thomas and wife LeAnne of Concordia, Kan.; a daughter, Stephanie Kidd and husband David of Ringgold, La.;Â grandsons, Nick Thomas and Brent Burnham of Concordia, Kan.; a granddaughter, Andrea Childers and husband Brock; great-granddaughters, Lainey and Faith Childers of Ringgold, La.; two brothers, Curtis Rickard and wife Kelly and John Rickard of Benton; and a sister, Mary Blaylock of Benton.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at Ashby Funeral Home with Brother Don McCutcheon officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Boys & Girls Club of Saline County.
