No charges have been filed, but Benton police report that a person of interest has been named in a kidnapping attempt reported Monday.
Lt. Kevin Russell, spokesperson for the department, said, "We are still encouraging people to contact us with information due to this still being an ongoing investigation."
A 16-year-old girl told police that she was walking near the intersection of South and Main streets when an Hispanic man approached her and attempted to get her into his vehicle, Russell said. The man made two attempts to coercer into the vehicle, the girl told officers.
She noted that he was speaking to her in Spanish, but she did not understand what he said.
A witness to the incident yelled at the man who then drove away, Russell said.
The man's vehicle was described as a single-cab Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck. The top portion of the truck was painted purple or dark blue and the lower portion was painted red, he said.
Benton police transmitted the information to surrounding law enforcement agencies, Russell said.
Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the police department at 501-7781171 or 501-315-TIPS.
