Raymond Arnel McPherson

December 1, 2011

Raymond Arnel McPherson, 88, of Benton, went to be with his Lord on Nov. 30.  He was born Jan. 28, 1923, to Sam and Ora McPherson.
Raymond was a longtime member and trustee of Kentucky Missionary Baptist Church. He had fond memories of his time in the Navy during World War II and of the 35 years he worked at Alcoa and enjoyed sharing accounts of those times.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Norma Jean McPherson; a daughter, Darlene Horne and husband Carl; two granddaughters, Carla Batchelor and husband Phillip and Kathy Duncan and husband Ben; six great-grandchildren, Emily, Hannah, Mataya, Atalya, Sam and Brody Ray; a brother, Orville McPherson and wife Elizabeth; a sister, Melba Harris; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at Kentucky Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Carl Horne officiating.  Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery on Salt Creek Road in Benton.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at Ashby Funeral Home.
Family comments: Raymond was a fisherman, gardener and loving Papa.  Every year his grandchildren waited impatiently for Papa’s tomatoes and cucumbers. He will be deeply missed.
