Rev. James E. Cody

The Rev. James E. Cody, 74, of Benton died Saturday, July 23, in Little Rock. He was born January 26, 1937, in Pine Bluff. James was a Church of God minister and a member of Little Rock Church of God. He was preceded in death by his father Carl Cody.
Survivors are his wife, Wanda L. Cody of Benton; son, James Rodney Cody and wife, Sarah of Missouri; daughters, Rhonda Wade and husband, Vic, of Texas, Rovena Spurlock and husband, Keith of Bauxite, Ramanda Cody and husband, Eric Stricklin of Benton; mother, Lucille Cody of Pine Bluff; brother, Jerald Cody, West Memphis; sister, Mary Frances Baker, Texas; grandchildren, Cody Gwin, Thomas Gwin, Heather Wade, Shelby Stricklin, Candace Stricklin, Josh Spurlock, and Cortny Spurlock and great-grandchild, Thomas James Gwin.
James was a loving husband of 50 years, devoted father and grandfather. A faithful servant of God, he lived his faith with authenticity and integrity. He devoted his life to serving and preaching God’s word. He was a called evangelist and wanted everyone he met to know the salvation of Jesus. He never missed an opportunity to spread God’s word. He passed along his love for fishing and hunting to his children. We are looking forward to our family reunion on the streets of gold where there is no more sickness.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ashby Funeral Home Chapel, with burial at Summitt Cemetery in Benton. Officiating will be Brian Monehan.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Ashby’s.
