Rosa Etta Like Hensley of Hot Springs passed from this world on Oct. 7, 2013, at the age of 97.Â She was born Oct. 22, 1915. in Avard, Okla., to the late George Simeon and Nancy Caroline Helton Like.
The family moved to Arkansas in 1923.Â Rosa Etta married Julius Festerson Hensley in 1933 and they lived on the Hensley farm in Saline County for more than 55 years until "Jude's" passing in 1988, moving then to Hot Springs. She was a homemaker, worked on the farm and loved woodworking, crocheting, knitting, piecing and quilting quilts.Â Rosa was of the Baptist faith.
Rosa was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, John Like and wife Louise and Charlie Like and wife Florence; two sisters, Mae Helton and husband John and Ethel Gilchrist and husband Warn; nephews, Randy Like, Vernon Helton, Virgil Helton and wife Lola, Joe Helton and wife Geraldine, Johnny Helton and wife Bobbie, Russell Gilchrist and wife Iva Jane, George Gilchrist and wife Junita; nieces, Verna Helton and husband Arlie Bingham, Letha Helton Langston, Shirley Like Snow and Fern Helton Osburn.
She is survived by a daughter, Willie Mae Hensley Curtis and husband Murl of Hot Springs; grandsons, Steven Douglas Curtis and wife Shari and Howard Edward Curtis, all of Hot Springs; great-grandsons, Steven Mathew and wife Vanessa, Bryan Douglas Curtis and wife Miranda of Jessieville, and Joshua Ryan Curtis of Little Rock; a great-granddaughter, Amy Marie Curtis Smith and husband Brad of Rogers;Â a great-great granddaughter, Hailley Bo Smith of Rogers; a nephew, Charles Like and wife Pat of Glenwood Springs, Colo.; nieces, Evea Helton Wood and husband Johnny of Morrilton, and Geneva Sue Like Barnett of Arlington,Texas; nephews-in-law, Bill Osburn, J.L. Snow, Harroll Langston and niece-in-law, Reba Fergerson; and extended family members, Jo Ann Curtis and husband Chalky Neighbors, Robert Curtis of Hot Springs, Jay Weldman and wife Sarah of Mississippi; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Ashby Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Old Union Cemetery on Steel Bridge Road and Bland Loop.
Scheduled to serve as pallbearers are Ron Helton, James Helton, Jimmy Deurin, Jimmy Rowan, Clyde Rowan, John Osburn and James Weidman. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Troy Oxner, John and Marge Malloy, Allen and Nina Thomas, Darwin and Sue Bergan, J.D. and Mary Rowan and Tex and Janie Keim.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at the funeral home.
