Roy Oxenrider

December 19, 2013

An angel visited Roy Oxenrider, 81, of Bryant and escorted him to Heaven on Dec. 15, 2013.
He was the founder of Royal Plumbing, Heating and Air Inc.
Roy was a member of the Chosin Few National Inc. and a life member of the Army Chapter Chosin Few.  He served 13 years on the Board of Directors, representing his unit at Chosin, 1st Battalion 32nd Infantry, 7th Division, 10th Corps. Ill health forced him to refuse the last nomination. He was a member of the Purple Heart Association and The Queen’s Own 32nd Infantry Association, serving several years as quartermaster.
He also was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and Korean War Veterans Association.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, James LeRoy Oxenrider; his parents, Leo and Flossie Oxenrider; his brothers, Albert (Mary Ellen), Clyde (Carrie), William C. (Lolita), Calire (Jean), Dean, and Leo Jr.; a sister-in-law, Margaret (Robert); and nephews, Darry and Barry Oxenrider.
Roy is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mildred Dodson Oxenrider; and a daughter, Tami Dee.  Also surviving are extended family and an adopted daughter, Kathy Thurston; Tami’s brothers, James Hall and Mike Jolley; caregivers that became a part of Roy’s family, Tonia Lang, Rodney Antes and Faye Brown; and a brother, Robert “Bob” Oxenrider.
A special thanks to the VA Home Health, which provided wonderful and caring people that worked hard trying to fulfill our needs; Cathy McLain, whom we depended on so much; Saline Hospice whose love and dedication meant so much; Chaplain Kim Hammer, whose words and prayers of comfort helped give us strength to make it through this difficult time; to our family and friends scattered throughout the world — thank you for your prayers and phone calls that meant so much to Roy and his best friends for over 80 years, Richard and Ruth Kaufman of Muir, Pa.
Funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Ashby Funeral Home with Ernie Wotring and Phil Hinkson officiating. Burial will be at New Rosemont Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
