Rutherford hired at NLR

June 20, 2014

Randy Rutherford, former superintendent of the Bryant School District, has been hired as principal of the North Little Rock High School West Campus, according to a statewide publication.

Rutherford's term will begin July 1, according to a Twitter post from Board Vice President Scott Miller.
Rutherford's term as Bryant superintendent ended on April 7 after he had been placed on administrative leave in March.

No reason for the suspension was given by the district.

Shortly before Rutherford's resignation, the district received the findings of a legislative audit that noted improper financial practices for the district. These reportedly included failure to take bids on construction projects; a former business manager's opening of an American Express credit card without authorization; and paying two employees more than they should have received based on their years of experience.

District officials have not confirmed nor denied whether the audit was a factor in Rutherford's departure.

After Rutherford left the district, Dr. Fred Dawson became interim superintendent and the board recently hired Tom Kimbrell as permanent superintendent.

Kimbrell currently serves as commissioner of education for the Arkansas Department of Education. He is slated to begin his term in the Bryant district on July 1.

Rutherford will replace interim principal Kenneth Kirspel, according to the district's website.
