The Saline County Library will host a lock-in for teens as part of the Summer Reading program.
The event is scheduled from 9 p.m. Friday, July 13, to 7 a.m. Saturday, July 14, at Herzfeld Library in Benton.
Contracts to confirm attendance may be picked up at either library location and are due back by Friday, July 6.
The 2012 Saline County Library Summer Reading program spans all age groups and involves reading and participating in library and other events to earn prizes. The teen lock-in is one of the most popular Summer Reading activities for the age group and has grown each year since its initial trial five years ago.
“Food and games appeal to a lot of people but teens in particular are drawn to this combination,” said Marisa Frantz, young adult librarian. “We always incorporate literary themes and the teens have ample opportunity to showcase their creativity in a fun yet familiar environment.”
Frantz noted that this year’s lock-in is spy-themed and participants will compete in spy training activities for prizes. In addition, every teen that attends will receive a young adult book as well as dinner, snacks and breakfast.
The Summer Reading program continues through Saturday, July 21. Teens and other age groups completing their bingo cards (with events such as the lock-in), will have the opportunity to enter several grand prize drawings.
