Samuel B. Ray, 89, of Benton passed away Wednesday, Oct. 19, in Benton.Â He was born Sept. 6, 1922, in Nashville, Tenn., to the late William Doak Ray and Eva Ray.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Doak Ray II; and a nephew, William Doak Ray III.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Jessie Ray; two daughters, April Esner and husband Ed and Patti Fulcher and husband Ronald;Â two grandsons, Ryan Esner and Bryan Esner and fiancee Meredith Bohne; a granddaughter, April Glimcher and husband Nick; two great-grandsons, Brooks and Gage Glimcher; one step-granddaughter, Julie Esner; and a nephew, Steve Ray and wife Nancy.Â
Samuel graduated from East Nashville High School and attended Middle Tennessee State College in Murfreesboro, Tenn., until he joined the Air Force, where he spent nine months in England as a radar technician.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Junior Chamber of Commerce and a former member of the Benton City Council.Â
He was also a member of the East Nashville Freewill Baptist Church and for more than 50 years attended First Baptist Church in Benton, where he attended Joe Wrightâ€™s Sunday School Class.
Funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 24, at Roller-Ballard Funeral Home, 306 S. Main St. in Benton (501-315-4047) with Dr. Rick Grant officiating.Â A private burial service is planned.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday Oct. 23.
