State police roll out new low-profile cruisers

August 14, 2013

LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas State Police has deployed 24 new low-profile vehicles that are designed to blend in with ordinary traffic.

The agency showed off the vehicles at headquarters early Wednesday.

The new cares are equipped the same as a conventional patrol car — but come in different colors, do not have the roof-mounted bar light and are marked only on the passenger side with the State Police star and blue stripe.

Each of the 12 troops in the state get two of the vehicles.

A Highway Safety grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration was used to purchase the newest cars along with the speed detection radars, emergency lighting and law enforcement communications equipment installed inside the vehicles.
