Sylvia G. McCray
Sylvia G. McCray, age 95, of Benton passed away Monday evening, March 12, 2012.
She was born July 16, 1916, to Russell A. and Laura Rich Garlington in Bryant.
Mrs. McCray was preceded in death by her husband, Ben M. McCray; her parents; her brother, M. F. “Tom” Garlington; her sister, Era Lynch; and a nephew, Michael J. Garlington.
Survivors include her son, Robert E. McCray (Colleen) of Dana Point, Calif.; her daughter, Donna M. McCormick (Bill) of Benton; two grandsons, Trent McCormick (Jamie) of Cocoa, Fla., and Kurtis McCormick (Christi) of Benton; three great-grandchildren, Cpl. Will McCormick of Camp LeJune, N.C., Holly McCormick of Cocoa, Fla. and K. K. McCormick of Benton; and two nephews, Russell Lynch (Ann) of Little Rock and Jim Lynch (Mary) of Benton.
During her long life, Sylvia was involved in a variety of activities. At Benton's First United Methodist Church, she was a member of the Nan Hughes Bible Class, the Recycled Voices Senior Adult Choir and in earlier years was a member of W.S.C.S. and sponsor of the youth.
She loved to travel and did so frequently following husband Ben’s death. They had enjoyed golfing together and she continued playing until she was 89 years old, winning many tournaments and developing friendships along the way.
Sylvia loved her life, her family and her friends. She was a member of Sesame Study Club, the Fortnightly Club, Ladies Golf Associations, P.E.O. and several bridge clubs.
Funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, March 16, at First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Victor Green and Don Nolley officiating. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
Visitation and a reception will be held from noon to 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
Her family would like to express gratitude for the tender, loving care provided by her caregivers for the past three years, which enabled her to remain in her home. Thank you to Tamica Slaughter, Beulah Putnam, Shirley Miller and Rebecca Bolding.
