Thelma Faye Batson, 83, of Little Rock, recently of Malvern, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 9, 2014.
Thelma was born Jan. 17, 1931, to E.V. and Birdie Graham Clark in Dalton, Texas, near Ennis.
First and foremost, Thelma was a devout believer in her Lord Jesus Christ. In her years of high school she was captain of the cheerleaders in Ennis and enjoyed many friends while growing up there.
After graduation from Ennis High School, she attended Jacksonville Baptist College where she met and married Bob Batson of Little Rock. From that union, two children were born, a daughter, Ginny, and a son, Clark. Thelma’s husband, Dr. Bob Batson, pastored Park Place Baptist Church in Little Rock for many years.
Thelma retired from the Education Department of Pulaski Technical College. When it became evident she could no longer live independently, she chose The Crossing, an assisted living community in Malvern, which she enjoyed to the fullest. Everyone there shortly put her on a first-name basis.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Clark Batson; a daughter, Ginny Oliver; and a granddaughter, Hayley Oliver.
She is survived by a twin sister, Velma Hyde (Bill) of Frankston, Texas; a sister, Ardeena Wood of Bardwell, Texas; a half-brother, Richard Clark of Ennis, Texas; grandchildren, Christy Jones, Angila Gifford and Kelli Mitchell; nine great-grandchildren; one niece; and two nephews.
Funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, March 13, at Roller-Drummond Funeral Home, 10900 Interstate 30 in Little Rock. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Morrilton.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Home Care of Hot Springs, 3955 Central Ave., Suite 6, Hot Springs, AR 71913.
