Things to do in Saline County this weekend

January 13, 2012

It's weekend time and the weather may be cool but there are some hot things to do the next couple of days.

The Young Players, the youth division of Royal Players, will present the school version of "Les Miserables" at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday with a matinee show at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

The musical, by Alain Boubill and Claude-Michel Schonberg, is set in revolutionary France in the 1800s and is based on the novel by Victor Hugo. Daphne Shoppach is directing the show and Jo Murry is musical director. Admission is $12 for general admission, $10 for seniors (60 and older) and $5 for students (college and younger).

The 2012 Polar Plunge "Freezin' for a Reason" will be held Saturday. Every $50 raised will send an individual into the water at Hurricane Lake Estates. The money raised will benefit the Special Olympics of Arkansas. The event is being sponsored by the Benton Police Department. The Plunge begins at 11:00 a.m.

If you need to get rid of junk around the house or old computers or tires or even old appliances, drop by the Saline Waste and Recycling Center on Saturday. The facility, located at 903 S. Neely Street in Benton, will be accepting a variety of recyclable items from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at no charge. For more information regarding Saline Waste and Recycling's drop-off day or services, call 501-317-2091 or visit
