Thomas E. Smith Jr., 82, of Benton passed away Wednesday, April 11. He was born Sept. 4, 1929, in North Little Rock to the late Thomas E. Smith Sr. and Ruby Valentine Smith. 
Thomas was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. The Saline Courier published several stories honoring Smith's service to his country. He was a certified registered nurse anesthetist and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Charles Smith; a sister, Betty Brewer; and a stepson, Hollis Van Hopkins.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Smith of Benton; three sons, Kevin Brent Smith and wife Lori of Alexander, Thomas Bruce Smith and wife Jeannie of Gravel Ridge, and Jeffrey Bryan Smith and wife Laura of Rockwall, Texas; a daughter, Lara Pigue and husband Shane of Benton; two sisters, Delores Yariger of Tylertown, Miss., and Dorothy Tollefson of Benton; 21 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and three stepdaughters, Kasondra Brown and Michelle Rhoden of Bryant and Melinda Whitehead of Hot Springs.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, at Ashby Funeral Home. Burial with military rites will follow follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 16, at the funeral home.
