Republican Bud Lidzy of Bryant is the third person to announce his candidacy for the Arkansas House of Representatives District 29 seat in 2008.
The seat currently is held by Rep. Janet Johnson, D-Bryant. Johnson, 60, is serving her third term. She will leave the House because of the state’s term limits law. Other candidates for the District 29 position include Democrat Mike Beckwith, 47, of Saline County, and Republican J. Brett Hooton, 24, of Bryant. Lidzy, 44, is a former Bryant City Council member. He said he stays active in politics, having worked with state Sen. Shane Broadway, D-Bryant, over the past two legislative sessions to enact legislation that benefits children of veterans. The measures allow children of 100 percent disabled veterans and veterans who have died in the line of duty while living in Arkansas to attend secondary education in the state without charge. Lidzy works for Siemens Medical Ultrasound as a clinical sales specialist. He also is a registered radiologic technologist, a registered diagnostic medical sonographer. He has co-authored several peer reviewed articles in medical journals. Before Siemens, he worked at St. Vincent’s Medical Infirmary and Arkansas Children’s Hospital. He said his major areas of concern are health care issues and insurance in the state, challenges faced by the state in regard to undocumented workers, primary and secondary education standards and funding, veterans issues and fiscal responsibility in state spending. Lidzy earned a Bachelor of Science degree in radiologic technology from the University of Central Arkansas in 1997. Upon graduating from Northside High School in Fort Smith in 1981, Lidzy joined the Army and served as an infantryman. A 100 percent disabled veteran, Lidzy is retired from the Army. He and his wife, Faith, of 22 years have three children. Their son, Kelly Austin Lidzy, is a graduate of Bryant High School, where he received an award as outstanding English student his senior year. He works for Bale Chevrolet in Little Rock while attending the University of Arkansas at Little Rock as an English major. Their daughter, Carrie Renee Lidzy, also is a Bryant High graduate. She served as captain of the cheerleading team and is in her freshman year at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, majoring in education. Their other daughter is Carly Rose, 5. |
