Gospel group to open Benton council meeting E-mail
Monday, 14 January 2008
The Sounds of OEM, a local gospel group associated with the College of Aspiring Artists at Shorter College, will sing the national anthem at the start of today’s Benton City Council meeting.
The event will begin at 7 p.m. at Benton Municipal Complex.
Joseph Hollis, whose five children comprise the Sounds of OEM, will give the invocation and lead the pledge of allegiance at the meeting.
Today’s council business will include voting on a resolution for establishing the time of council meetings, rules for conducting council meetings and setting the meeting agenda. These are housekeeping items that are addressed at the first of each year.
Other items on the council agenda include the following:
•Three rezoning ordinances.
•An ordinance establishing operating policies and procedures for cable access Channel 12 and returning operational control of Channel 12 to the city.
•An ordinance requiring new subdivisions to conduct video inspections of sewer lines, establishing a rate changed by the city of Benton for conducting video inspections of sewer mains.
All of these ordinances are coming from the council’s Community Services Committee, which is chaired by Alderman Charles Cunningham.
Reports also are possible from other standing committees, including the following:
•Streets, chaired by Alderman David Sparks.
•Personnel, chaired by Alderman Brad Moore.
•Finance and Economic Development, chaired by Alderman Doug Stracener.
•Animal Control, chaired by Alderman Larry Wolf.
•Health and Safety, chaired by Alderman Steve Lee.
All council meetings and committee sessions are open to the public.
