The hospital collected old cell phones, which it donated to AT&T for the Cell Phones for Soldiers program. For each donated phone, AT&T will provide a calling card equivalent to an hour of talk time to soldiers serving abroad. Cell Phones for Soldiers was founded by teenagers Robbie and Brittany Bergquist from Norwell, Mass., with $21 of their own money. Since then, the registered nonprofit organization has raised almost $1 million in donations and distributed more than 400,000 prepaid calling cards to soldiers serving overseas. AT&T is now offering all 1,800 company-owned wireless store locations across the country as drop-off sites to help recycle used cell phones for the program through July 2008.
