By Courier Staff About 850 residents of the Tull community and the surrounding area in south Saline County were without power Tuesday afternoon and this morning, according to a spokesman for First Electric Cooperative.
Neal Frizzell, president of marketing and communications, said First Electric is not receiving electricity from Entergy because of a problem with Entergy’s distribution line. Entergy spokesman James Thompson said Tuesday’s strong straight-line winds knocked out power to 72,000 customers across the state. About 42,000 were still without power this morning, he said, including about 1,400 around Saline County. He said it could be late Thursday or even Friday before all the power is restored statewide. “The 50- to 60-mph winds blew trees down on power lines and twisted wires, which eventually snapped,” he said. He said hundreds of utility poles snapped. He said Entergy called in an extra 300 workers from Louisiana and Texas to help with repairs. Frizzell encouraged First Electric customers to call 888-827-3322 toll-free so crews can check those areas and make sure all service is restored.
