By Courier Staff Dawn Creekmore of East End has announced that she will seek re-election to a third term in the Arkansas House of Representatives.
Creekmore, a Democrat, represents House District 27, which includes the townships of East End, Bauxite, Shannon Hills, Sardis, Otter, Smith, and Shaw in Saline County and parts of Pulaski County. This would be the final House term for Creekmore, 42, because of the state’s term-limits law. During her first term, Creekmore passed several pieces of legislation that became law. She said she was most proud of her consumer protection bills that included the following: Act 1779, which prohibits registered sex offenders from working or volunteering with children; Act 1018, to include the use of a scanning device or a re-encoder in the offense of financial identity fraud; Act 1233, to create the address confidentiality program for victims of domestic violence or their dependents; Act 29, to clarify that combat zone compensation for members of the armed forces is exempt from Arkansas individual income tax. During a special session and then during her second term, Creekmore authored and passed her child protection package that included: Act 4, The Child Protection Act; Act 5, which increases the penalty for rape or sexual assault; Act 38, which increases the penalty for internet stalking of a child; Act 394, which creates a criminal offense prohibiting a sex offender from living near or contacting their victims; Act 56, which prohibits the award of child custody to a sex offender; and Act 85, a bill from the attorney general’s office that enhanced the penalty for financial identity fraud. Creekmore serves as National Foundation for Women Legislators state director for Arkansas and Veterans Affairs team Leader for Arkansas. She chairs the Rural Fire Department Study Committee, Firefighters Communications, Aging and Legislative Affairs-Children and Youth and ALC Litigation Reports Oversight subcommittees. She is vice-chair of Aging, Children and Youth, Legislative and Military Affairs Committee. She also serves on Arkansas Legislative Council, Energy and Public Health. She leads a sex offender task force that has been meeting for three years and a domestic violence task force that has been meeting for almost a year. Creekmore said she “is really enjoying serving the people of District 27 and is already working on legislation for her next term.” Those bills include: A bill to completely re-write Arkansas’ stalking law, a consumer protection security freeze bill to prevent financial identity theft, a bill to create a uniform order of protection and to increase the penalty if order is violated, among others. “I want to say thank you to the voters of District 27 for entrusting me to represent you. I appreciate the confidence you have shown in me.” Creekmore is a small business owner, and a member of the National Rifle Association, Arkansas Hunger Coalition and East End Baptist Church. She and her husband, Mike, have two daughters, Whitney and Megan.
