The annual Benton Area Chamber of Commerce banquet will take place Monday at the Benton High School cafeteria.
The event will begin with a social time at 6:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Keith Jackson of Little Rock will be the featured speaker. A former NFL player, Jackson is founder of the nonprofit Positive Atmos-phere Reaches Kids. PARK serves junior and senior high school students who may be at risk of dropping out of school and giving into the pressures of drugs, alcohol, sex and gangs. The program provides after-school tutoring, recreation, summer programs and community service. “He’s very uplifting and inspirational,” said Eddie Black, interim director of the chamber. Chamber member Tom Baxley will serve as the master of ceremonies at the event, where numerous awards will be presented. The Outstanding Citizen of the Year award is among those to be presented at the banquet. “This is our largest event for the members, and we’ll talk about where the chamber is going and the new Web-based member management system,” Black said. All tickets have been sold for the event, a chamber spokesman said.
