Gay By Matt Burks Courier StaffBenton police are searching for Brittany Gay, a pregnant 15-year-old who was last seen Jan. 26 at the Benton Skate Center.
She reportedly left the skating rink and has not been seen or heard from since, authorities said. “I just want my daughter back,” Tracy Gay, her mother, said. “We miss her and want her home.” Brittany Gay is 5 feet 2 inches tall, weighing around 135 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing blue jeans and a black Bauxite Miners shirt with the name “Kim” on the back. Benton police Detective Jennifer Tarvin said this case is unique because the girl is pregnant. “I take all of my runaway cases very seriously and I am actively looking for her,” Tarvin said. “Because she is pregnant, I am looking for two people with this case. I want her found and I want her safe.” According to a Benton police report, Tracy Gay first reported to Officer Derek McGuire on Jan. 26 that her daughter was last seen on that date at 8:45 p.m. after leaving the Benton Skate Center. She also told McGuire that she left in a white Chevrolet Camaro in an unknown direction. In a Courier interview, Tracy Gay said she received information several days later that her daughter may have been dropped off at J.J.’s Truck Stop at 15200 Interstate 30 by an unknown man, who may live in Little Rock. “I talked to a boy that said Brittany called him from a gas station in Traskwood and that he took her out to eat,” she said. “I asked him if she looked OK to him. ‘Is she clean, is she cold, has she ate?’ I just want to know if she is OK and safe.” She said her daughter has a friend in Traskwood, which could be the reason she was in the area to call the man. The boy then told Tracy Gay that he dropped Brittany off at the truck stop and that he believed she got a ride from someone. However, he said he didn’t see her leave with anyone. “I also called her friend in Traskwood and she said she hasn’t seen or heard from Brittany either,” the mother said. “I haven’t got any information. I have got no leads, but I have searched. I’ve called everyone I can think of and I have knocked on doors. I have even gone into people homes where I thought she might be and I have searched them trying to find her.” Tracy Gay said she is placing fliers all over Saline County with her daughter’s picture in hopes that someone might recognize her and help bring her home. Tarvin said it is essential to find Brittany soon so that she can receive the proper care for her unborn child as well as for her own physical and mental needs. Her due date reportedly is the first week of June. The detective said she hasn’t seen any indication that Brittany has been harmed. “She’s out there, but she needs to be home were she can be safe,” Tarvin said. “At home she can be clean and warm and she can be getting prenatal care. We need to find her and bring her home.” Tracy Gay said her family is sad and stressed, but she is not going to give up the search for her daughter. “We are not good at all,” she said. “Her 7-year-old brother doesn’t understand all of this and he really misses her. If anyone out there knows where she is, please call and let someone know. We love her, we miss her and we are concerned about the safety of her and her child.” To report any information about Brittany, contact the Benton Police Department at 776-5948 or 315-TIPS.
