Classical guitarist Peter Fletcher will return to Benton for a concert Saturday, March 1.

This will be the fifth appearance locally for Fletcher, who will perform from 2 to 3:45 p.m. at Herzfeld Memorial Library.
The Benton concert, which is free, is part of Fletcher’s tour that began Jan. 31 and will include a performance at famed Carnegie Hall in April.
Selections from Fletcher’s 2007 album, “Music of Four Centuries,” will comprise part of the afternoon’s program at the library at 1800 Smithers Drive.
The concert will include Francisco Tárrega’s “Recuerdos de la Alhambra.” Other pieces include “Third Cello Suite” and “Prelude” by J.S. Bach and “Sarabande and Variations” by G.F. Handel. The program will conclude with the Spanish work “Sevilla” by Isaac Albénez.
Julie Hart, Saline County Library director, said Fletcher “has been a library favorite for the past four years, and every year seems more exciting.”
Fletcher, a classical guitarist since age 7, is known for recording music never before played on the classical guitar, an instrument that he said tends to have a limited pool of music without employing transcription techniques.
He said he plans to release a new CD every year “to increase audience and to expand the repertory of the classical guitar.”
“I have always hoped that classical guitar might inspire young people to become more interested in classical music,” Fletcher said.
Fletcher has four albums in addition to his 2007 album release, and all of his music will be available for purchase at the concert.
For more information, call the library at 778-4766 or visit www.saline.lib.ar.us.
The Saline County Library, established in 1931, has branches in Benton and the Bryant.
Saline County Library also provides services to residents of Garland, Grant and Hot Spring counties through reciprocal agreements among participating Central Arkansas libraries, Hart said.
