By Jillian Duke Courier Staff Karen Crowson of Benton, Crye-Leike Realtors managing broker, has been elected vice chairman of the Arkansas Real Estate Commission. Gov. Mike Beebe appointed Crowson, 52, to a three-year position on the commission in 2007, so she is assuming the vice presidency going into her second year on the board.
“I am honored that my colleagues on the commission have the trust and confidence in me to join them in a leadership capacity in 2008,” Crowson said. “I take this new responsibility seriously at a time when the public demands accountability and best practices from all licensed real estate professionals and the firms they represent.” Crowson has enjoyed what she terms “an amazing career” in real estate that began in 1987 when she was first licensed to sell real estate in Arkansas. Her career with Crye-Leike launched in 2003 when she was named the managing broker of the company’s new Bryant branch office. A year later, she was named to the same post at the Benton branch office at 1900 Military Road, Suite 4, where she remains the managing broker today. Crowson’s election to vice chair of the Real Estate Commission comes just months after she was honored as the 2007 Realtor of the Year by the Arkansas Realtors Association. She has had a leadership history with the ARA that includes serving as president in 2006, president-elect in 2005 and secretary-treasurer in 2004. Crowson remains active in the ARA, serving as vice chairman of the Political Action Committee and is a member of the Professional Standards and Risk Reduction committees and Member Services. The Benton/Bryant Realtors Association first named Crowson Realtor of the Year in 1996 and again in 2001. She was the first member of the local association to be named Arkansas Realtor of the Year. Crowson is chairman of the Benton/Bryant Realtors Association Realtor Political Action and Realtor of the Year committees. She served as president in 1996, vice president in 1995 and secretary-treasurer in 1993. She chaired the Make America Better Committee in 1991 and the Million Dollar Committee in 1988. With the National Association of Realtors, Crowson is serving as a director and member of the Professional Standards Committee. She previously served three-year terms on the NAR Housing Needs and Professional Standards committees. Crowson is an accredited buyers representative, a certified real estate specialist and a graduate of the Realtors Institute. She assists buyers and sellers in and around Saline County, specializing in residential real estate. Crowson and her daughter, Angie Johnson, also a licensed sales associate with Crye-Leike, work as the www.SellingBenton.com Team.
