Courier Staff Two Benton teenagers have been arrested in connection with 30 vehicle burglaries in the city in February.
Benton police detectives said a series of leads led them to Dustin Ashley and Mason Galvin, who face numerous charges. The suspects were scheduled to appear in Benton District Court late this morning for a bond hearing. They were being held in the Saline County Detention Center. Ashley is charged with 20 counts each of breaking or entering and theft of property. Galvin is charged with five counts each of breaking or entering and theft of property and one count of filing a false police report. More charges are possible, authorities said. Sgt. Kevin Russell said burglaries occurred in various areas of Benton, primarily at residences. He said items stolen from vehicles totaled more than $5,000. Burglaries were reported throughout February, police said, noting that most of the burglaries occurred at residences. Streets that were targeted include East Maple, North Border, River Oaks, Volcanic Drive, Red Oak Circle, Carwin Drive, Houston Drive, Foxwood, Edison Avenue, Congo Road, Michael Drive, Interstate 30, Troy Drive, Stonewall Drive, Legacy Drive, Clover Hill Drive, Bud Street and Frendall Road. River Oaks subdivision “got hit the hardest by far,” Russell said, adding that most of the burglaries occurred between midnight and 8 a.m. Items reported stolen from vehicles totaled more than $5,000, Russell said. The items included stereos, speakers, cash, credit cards, purses, GPS tracking devices, spare vehicle and house keys, checkbooks, debit cards, driver’s licenses and Social Security and Medicaid cards. Police said residents are reminded to lock their vehicles and remove any valuables. If valuables must be left inside a vehicle, police said the owner should keep detailed information about the items, including serial numbers.
