Former constable, Hall, announces for sheriff E-mail
Thursday, 13 March 2008

Courier Staff

A former Saline County constable has announced as a candidate for the county’s top law enforcement officer position.

Gordon O. Hall, 45, of Alexander will run as an independent for sheriff in the November general election.
He said he wants to combat illegal drug activity in the county.
“I have grandchildren and I don’t want them on drugs. Drugs tear you apart,” said Hall, who served as a constable from 2001 to 2006.
“I want to protect our schools and our children and educate them more about drugs.”
Hall said he would like to establish more drug prevention programs in schools.
“There’s just a lack of anybody doing anything” about drugs, he said.
Hall is one of four candidates for sheriff. Sheriff’s Sgt. Bruce Pennington of Benton is the lone Democrat candidate. Business owner James Ward of Alexander and sheriff’s Patrol Sgt. Tim Dudderar of Bryant will meet in the May 20 Republican primary.
Hall has worked for the Little Rock School District in the special needs transportation department for about 18 years, he said.
He has lived in Saline County since 1994. “We moved here because it’s a good place to live and we wanted to get our kids in the schools,” Hall said.
As constable, Hall said, he enjoyed helping people solve problems and filling in when deputies were busy in another part of the county.
Hall also pointed to his experience in the early 1980s working in the Pulaski County jail in explaining his interest in law enforcement.
To run as an independent, Hall needs to collect 958 signatures by May 1.
“It will take a lot of leg work,” he said, “but I have several people working on it.
”Hall’s wife’s name is Rachel. He has two adult daughters, Christina White and Jennifer Cox, and three grandchildren, all of Benton.
Sheriff Phil Mask of Bryant said he will not seek re-election to a fifth term.
