Several polices concerning city employees are expected to be presented today when the Bryant City Council meets at Boswell Municipal Complex. The meeting will begin at 7.
A representative of the human resources department is expected to ask the council to accept a new training policy that requires employees to gain approval from the council before attending any training seminars. The proposed policy reads: “In an effort to continue to be good stewards of the taxpayers’ money, shall review all training and seminar requests before any employees attend said requested training. The council will determine, in its sole discretion, whether a course, seminar, or convention is work- or job-related, and necessary for the employee to better serve the citizens of Bryant.” The policy also asks that any employee who attends an approved seminar or training course be required to submit a brief written description outlining any information gained from the course. The city human resources department also will present a proposed policy concerning light duty work and ask for approval of the job description for the city’s animal control technician. Police Chief Tony Coffman is expected to present a proposed policy concerning inclement weather, and the Bryant Parks Department will ask for an approval of a proposed ordinance adopting fees use of swimming pools and pavilions at Mills Park and Springhill Manor Park. Boswell Municipal Complex is at 210 SW Third St. Larry Mitchell is Mayor. Aldermen are Rick Meyer, Steve Gladden, Steve Glenn, Larry Smart, Robby Young, Ken Green, Danny Steele and Chris Tipton. Council meetings are open to the public. Suggested fees for the swimming pool at Mills Park $3 per person, a five day swim lessons from Monday through Friday at $40 and parties to be reserved at $120 for two hours. Pavilion charges are at the suggested rate of $5 an hour for Bryant residents and $10 an hour for non-residents of Bryant. The inclement weather policy reads that “adverse weather conditions sometimes require a more flexible approach in granting leave. The purpose of this policy is to reduce the risk to city employees and members of the public who may wish to visit city facilities. Generally, all employees are expected to report to work unless city offices have been closed due to inclement weather.” The policy also reads that “all department heads will be notified and employees are responsible for contacting their deparment heads for information on office closings. It is not the responsiblity of the city to contact employees. In the event the offices are closed, non-essential employees will be compensated at their regular rate of pay for the period during which the offices were closed.”
