Pirates are coming to Benton this weekend. Well, not real pirates. Pirate impersonators will descend upon Tyndall Park for the fifth annual Sparks in the Park event to benefit Saline County Court Appointed Special Advocates. All proceeds from Sparks will go toward helping abused and neglected children with open cases in Saline County.
Jack Sparrow, from the acclaimed “Pirates of the Caribbean” film saga, and his crew will make the pirate-themed games and activities complete. People may start playing at 10 a.m. and the event will last until 5 p.m. with activities available for the entire family. “In Kiddie Land, our theme will be Pirates of the Caribbean and we will have pirates on hand to entertain and play games with the kids,” said Jackie Perkins, executive director of Saline County CASA. “There will be lots of inflatables for the kids to climb and bounce on. “For those who like a little bit of adventure, you can see how long you can stay on the mechanical bull or see if you can make it to the top of the rock wall.” For skateboarding enthusiasts, a skateboard competition will take place at 11 a.m. at the skateboard ramps at the park. A dunking booth will be set up for people to see how well they can throw. Willing victims will include Benton Mayor Rick Holland from 11 a.m. to noon, Bruce Pennington from 12 to 1 p.m., Tim Dudderar from 1 to 2 p.m. and a representative from MidTowne Church from 2 to 4 p.m. The event also will include a petting zoo, train rides, pony rides, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission fish aquarium, Home Depot children’s workshop, Sparks car show, “lots of great food” and much more, officials said.
