Habitat for Humanity of Saline County offers Mother’s Day options E-mail
Friday, 25 April 2008
A special Mother’s Day gift option is being offered by Habitat for Humanity of Saline County.
Donations may be given to Habitat in honor of a particular woman that will be used to benefit an upcoming Women’s Build planned by the local Habitat affiliate.
The local affiliate, in partnership with Lowe’s, is planning the 2008 Women’s Build for early September, but preparations are under way now to finance the project, explained Karma Herzfeld, executive director of the local affiliate.
Women’s Build is a Habitat for Humanity International program that encourages women to make a difference by building homes for people who live in substandard housing, Herzfeld noted.
“Women’s Builds provide an environment in which women can feel comfortable learning construction skills they might not otherwise have the opportunity to learn,” Herzfeld said.
“Our affiliate will nurture, recruit and train women to build and maintain decent, healthy and affordable homes,” she said.
Herzfeld encouraged local residents to assist Habitat volunteers in helping “empower and encourage women in our community to make a difference in the lives of well-deserving families in need.”
She encouraged residents to “celebrate the special women in your life this Mother’s Day by giving a gift that keeps on giving.”
The gift options available to assist with this project are:
• For $25, the donor may send a special woman a personalized Habitat Mother’s Day card.
• For $50, the donor may send a special woman a personalized Habitat Mother’s Day card and have a personal message written on a 2-by-4 to be used in the construction of the Women’s Build in September.
•For $100, the donor may send the special woman a personalized Habitat Mother’s Day card, have a personal message written on a 2-by-4 to be used in the construction of the Women’s Build in September and have the honor/memorial listed on the on-site Women’s Build sign.
All requests must be received by May 5, Herzfeld said.
Documentation of tax-deductible gifts will be mailed to the donors.
Persons wishing to make one of these donations should fill out a form that asks for the level of gift to be chosen, the name of the  person being honored or memorialized, and the name and address of the donor as it is to appear on the card is to be sent to the recipient.
Additional information is available from Herzfeld at 315-5434 or at the Habitat office, 404 W. Walnut St., Benton.
Since 1999, Habitat has built 25 homes in Saline County.
Habitat for Humanity is a Christian ministry dedicated to eliminating poverty housing. Habitat partners with volunteers to work together to build affordable houses with people in need.
Partner families invest hundreds of hours of their own labor — known as “sweat equity” — into building their houses and the houses of others. Homeowners’ mortgage payments go into a revolving fund for Habitat that is used to build more  homes.
