Nora Ferguson, 67, of Benton passed away Saturday, May 17, 2008. She was born Jan. 9, 1941, to William and Georgie Dodd Dunson in Hot Springs, Ark. Nora was a graduate of Hot Springs High School in 1959 and attended the University of Arkansas at Little Rock criminal justice program, where she had a stellar grade point average. She earned her keep as a legal secretary for Sam Ed Gibson of Benton, the Benton Police Department and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Graduate School in the Department of Research and sponsored programs from where she retired. Nora was very active in the First United Methodist Church of Benton, where she was an active member of both the Roundtable and Wesley Sunday school class. She also was very active in United Methodist Women and a Women’s Bible Study Group. She served as recording secretary for the the United Methodist Women’s group. She also was very active in Democratic Women at the county, state and federal level. She served as both president and vice president of the Saline County chapter. She volunteered for numerous candidates and their campaigns. She and her late husband, Bob, volunteered so many hours at the Bill Clinton for President campaign in Little Rock after working full days at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. They were awarded full all access campaign credentials by the campaign. She also was a volunteer for the Christian Community Care Clinic in Benton. Nora was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Bob Ferguson of Benton, and her parents, William Erron and Georgia Dunson of Baytown, Texas. She also was preceded in death by her godparents, W.A. “Dub” Reader and Martha “Mot” Reader of Hot Springs. She is survived by her two sons, Jason Ferguson of Pine Bluff and Pete Ferguson of Benton. She also is survived by her daughter-in-law, Laura Ferguson and grandson Luke Ferguson, both of Benton. Luke was very fond of his “Mimi.” She is survived as well by her sister, Linda Owens of Hot Springs. She is survived by her cousins, David Kilgore of Hot Springs, Judy Laningham of Houston, Tex. and Norma McLain of Hot Springs. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Ashby Funeral Home in Benton. Burial will be in Pine Crest Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service will be Rickie Brady, Terry Benham, Joe Carter, Adam Prichard, Ken Benham and Randy Roberson. The service will be officiated by the Rev. George McCoy. Honorary Pallbearers will be Julie Scutter Jarrell, Linda Conley and Susie Caruth-Irwin. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. PAID OBITUARY |
