Time to fry up some fish at Lake Norrell E-mail
Tuesday, 27 May 2008

Deciding not to mess with a good thing, Lake Norrell Fire Department is holding its annual fish fry and only fundraiser for the year.

Lake Norrell volunteer firefighters Tommy Hanson, left, and Robert Berry stand ready for the eighth annual fish fry Saturday to benefit the fire department.

The event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Lake Norrell Community Center.
The menu includes catfish, shrimp, chicken, slaw, baked beans, French fries, cake and drinks.
Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.
Each year, a project is chosen to benefit from the funds raised at the event. This year’s proceeds will go toward a floating boat dock for the fire boat, said Barbara Howell, fundraising chairwoman.
Howell also represents the area as District 4  justice of the peace on the Saline County Quorum Court.
“The fire boat is essential in helping to put out fires and rescue on the lake for jet ski accidents and boat fires. It is also used to put out structure fires from the lake side as well,” Howell said.
A live and silent auction will be held at the fish fry. Ricky Scruggs, board member of the fire department, is collecting items for the auction. To donate items, call 680-6473.
The fire department is small “but extremely well run strictly by volunteers and they have proved their worth many times over,” Howell said.
“They could not save my home last year, but the Lake Norrell Fire Department saved both my neighbors houses and just recently saved two other houses when Rick Brant’s house burned out here.
“Usually, even in town, the fire departments cannot save the structure that is on fire because the fire works so fast, but if the fire departments can save the adjoining structures, that is absolutely wonderful.”
Howell added, “I dearly love this fire department and have worked for this cause for eight years.”
Fore more information on the event, call Howell at 681-7577.
