Program helps SMH employees further education E-mail
Tuesday, 27 May 2008
Several Saline Memorial Hospital employees are furthering their education with less financial stress because of the SMH Auxiliary scholarship program.
Each year, the SMH Auxiliary rewards scholarships to hospital employees interested in furthering their careers in the medical profession.
The recipients are selected by the Auxiliary Scholarship Committee and voted on by the Auxiliary. Each recipient receives $1,000 toward the institution of choice.
The 2008 recipients are Francis Heath, Meagan Bullock, Sherry Ward, Jennifer Sowell, Teresa McNeely, Lisa Gagne and Deandra Slate.
Heath works in the hospital’s accounting department and is seeking a business administration degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
Bullock is a pharmacy assistant attending Lyon College. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Science Education degree in biochemistry.
Ward is an RN for Hospice. She has an associate’s degree in nursing and is working toward her bachelor’s degree.
Sowell works in the surgery department of the hospital as a scrub technician, working on her nursing degree through UALR.
McNeely is a patient care tech seeking a nursing degree. After completing her education, she hopes to apply those skills in an acute care area of the hospital such as ICU or CCU.
Gagne works in Hospice as a patient care tech and plans to obtain a degree in nursing through the Baptist School of Nursing.
Deandra Slate is a patient care tech in the Generations Department at the hospital. She has applied for the Associate’s Degree in Nursing Program at National Park Community College.
“We are so happy that we are able to give these scholarships to these deserving SMH employees,” said Linda Jo Chenault, Auxiliary Scholarship Committee chair.
“Our hope is that SMH will benefit from this, and that these co-workers will work here after they’ve completed their education.”
