Organizers of the annual Lake Norrell Fish Fry accomplished their goal: Make people full of good food and raise money for the Lake Norrell Volunteer Fire Department. Lake Norrell firemen cook at the annual fish fry Saturday to benefit the fire department. Pictured are Bobby Morton, Raymond Page, Fire Chief Ronnie Forsyth and Bobby Ray.
More than 230 people were served at the fundraiser Saturday at the Lake Norrell Community Center, said Lake Norrell resident Barbara Howell, who chaired the event. Members of the fire department served fish, shrimp, chicken and all the trimmings, Howell said, noting that Fire Chief Ronnie Forsyth coordinated the cooking efforts. Howell is a District 4 justice of the peace on the Saline County Quorum Court. “We want to thank everyone who came out and participated in the fundraising event,” she said. “Helping the fire department is a great way to help your community.” A live auction also was part of the festivities. Phyllis Saugey, along with her mother- and father-in-law, Betty and Terry Saugey, served as auctioneers. “Thanks to everyone who donated items for the auction and those that purchased items,” Howell said. “Everyone had a great time and left full.” Each year, a project is chosen to benefit from funds raised at the event. This year’s proceeds will be used to build a floating boat dock for the fire boat.
