Malvern murder suspect still at large after eluding officers E-mail
Wednesday, 04 June 2008
MALVERN — A man identified as the person who shot and killed Damien Richard Jones in his Malvern home on Monday morning was still at large late Tuesday night after a vehicle pursuit in North Little Rock.
Malvern Assistant Police Chief William Ross said late Tuesday that his department had identified Timothy Laplez Davis, 22, as the suspect who shot and killed Jones.
Davis uses both Malvern and North Little Rock addresses, Ross said.
Ross said Davis was located in North Little Rock around 10 p.m. Tuesday but eluded NLR police after a vehicle pursuit, authorities said.
Jones and an unidentified man were still at large at press time this morning, but another man, who had not been identified, was in custody Tuesday night.
Ross said police did not know at press time if either man in the vehicle with Davis is connected to the Malvern homicide.
North Little Rock police recovered the Jeep Cherokee witnesses say Davis and three accomplices used in the murder. Ross said NLR officers recovered physical evidence related to the crime.
Ross said three black men and one black woman entered 603 Baker St. in Malvern around 9:30 a.m. Monday looking for Jones, 21, who was not home at the time.
After confronting Jones’ grandmother and girlfriend, three of the suspects began firing at Jones when he arrived home, reportedly chasing him through the house.
Jones was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck by several bullets and collapsing to the floor, police said.
