Senior centers offer respite from heat Senior Activity Centers in Saline County will serve as cooling shelters during their regular business hours for anyone that needs a break from the heat. Benton’s center is open Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 210 Jefferson St. For more information, call Sherry Parsons at 315-0645. The Bryant center is open Monday-Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 702 SW 4th St. For more information, call Mary Vickers at 847-0809. Central Arkansas Development Council sponsors the senior center programs.

‘Dining to donate’ set at local eatery “Burritos for Backpacks” is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at Moe’s Southwest Grill, 7409 Alcoa Road. Ten percent of each diner’s bill will be donated to the Ralph Bunche Community Action Committee’s sixth annual Back to School Picnic. Dinners should present a flier about the event to their server or tell the server that they support the sixth annual Back to School Picnic.
— Courier staff Blood drives throughout county set Blood drives in Saline County in July will be held at: Bryant Wal-Mart Supercenter, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 4; Benton Wal-Mart, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 5; Salem United Methodist Church in Benton, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 12; Arkansas Health Center in Benton, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 18; and Benton Wal-Mart, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 19.
