A Bryant firefighter faces felony charges and is on administrative leave after being charged with the rape of an 11-year-old girl over a two-year period.
Robert Michael Cadmus, 33, of Bauxite turned himself into the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Depart-ment on June 25, authorities said. John Rehrauer, public information officer for the sheriff’s office, said Cadmus was released on $20,000 bond several hours later.
Rehrauer said Arkansas State Police investigators have been reviewing the case since August 2007 after receiving information about a call to the child abuse hotline.
“The state police have actually been interviewing (Cadmus) for some time,” Rehrauer said.
The victim reportedly told a friend that she has been repeatedly raped over a two-year period. That friend told her grandmother what the victim said, and the information was reported to the police.
According to a police report, Cadmus allegedly told the victim when she was 9 that it was time to learn how to have sex like an adult.
Cadmus has been a Bryant firefighter for five years after transferring from the Stuttgart Fire Department, according to Bryant Fire Chief Randy Cox.
Cox said Cadmus supervised a crew of two other firefighters and said he is on administrative leave for other issues unrelated to the rape charge. Cox did not elaborate on those other issues.
Cadmus is scheduled to appear in Pulaski County District Court on Oct. 16, Rehrauer said.
