Latest FEMA deadline nears E-mail
Thursday, 10 July 2008
July 21 is last day for help for victims of May 2 tornado People in Saline County who suffered damage during the May 2 tornado have until Monday, July 21, to seek disaster aid from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
That date is the last day individuals may apply for FEMA assistance under the May 20 federal disaster declaration. The deadline is 60 days from the date when President Bush issued the major disaster declaration.
“Since the May 20 disaster declaration, more than 1,300 people have registered for assistance,” said Richard Griffin, state coordinating officer for the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management. “There’s still time for everyone who had damage to register. But don’t put it off any longer.”
Ken Riley, federal coordinating officer with FEMA, reiterated that the deadline is for new disaster applications for the early May storms. “For those who already have applied, their cases will continue to be processed.”
Saline County residents who need assistance should call the FEMA registration line at 1-800-621-3362 (FEMA) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for persons with special speech or hearing needs. Registration line hours are operational from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Applicants also can register online at any time at www.fema.gov.
The deadline to submit loan applications to the U.S. Small Business Administration is also July 21.
SBA is the federal government’s primary source of money for the long-term rebuilding of disaster-damaged private property. SBA helps homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes, and private nonprofit organizations fund repairs or rebuilding efforts, and cover the cost of replacing lost or disaster-damaged personal property.
