Six have filed for school board spots E-mail
Tuesday, 15 July 2008
No incumbents have stepped forward yet, but six other people have filed for school board positions in Saline County, including three challengers in Benton.
The filing period ends at noon Friday.
Five board positions are being challenged in the county’s four public school districts. The school election is Tuesday, Sept. 16.
In Benton, David Polner and Joe T. Felan have filed for Position 4, which is held by board President Andy Bloxom.
Clark Hopper has filed for Position 6 on the Benton board. That position is held by Amy Daniel, who has served on the board for nearly two decades.
Polner is a former teacher. He writes a column titled “Youth Cents” each Saturday in the Courier.
Joe Wishard has filed for the Position 4 seat at Bryant. Board President David Passmore occupies that position.
At Bauxite, Howard Kitchens’ Position 4 seat has two challengers so far. They are Mike Parsons and Randy Childress.
One position is open in the Harmony Grove School District but no one had filed as of this morning. Charles “Buck” Burchfield holds that position. He was elected last year to fill the unexpired term for Tracy Jackson, who resigned.
Board members serve five-year terms.
