Nathan Bennett, 21, of Benton, who recently returned from a tour of duty in Iraq with the Army National Guard, was killed Tuesday in a three-vehicle accident on Interstate 30 in North Little Rock.
Bennett was reported to be driving a westbound 2008 Ford Taurus on Interstate 30 near the Broadway Street exit around 9:15 a.m. when he drove onto the shoulder and struck an Arkansas Highway and Transportation Depart-ment street sweeper. The Taurus then crossed two lanes of traffic and struck a Toyota Avalon, the accident report said. Bennett was pronounced dead at the scene. Robert Wayne Davidson, 32, of North LIttle Rock was the driver of the street sweeper and reportedly was “sore but uninjured.” Charlotte Williams, 45, of Maumelle was the driver of the Avalon and also did not report injuries. Arkansas State Police sealed off all lanes of westbound traffic around 9:40 a.m. and lanes were reopened just after 11 a.m. The report said Bennett had the vehicle seat belt in use at the time of the crash.
