BENTON NATIVE CLIFF LEE made the most of his memorable opportunity Tuesday night. The Cleveland Indians’ left-handed pitcher kept the National League at bay as the starter for the American League in Major League Baseball’s annual All-Star game. Lee had three strikeouts and allowed just one hit in two innings of work at New York’s historic Yankee Stadium, which will be razed at the end of this season. The sellout crowd of 55,632 included 49 members of baseball’s Hall of Fame. Lee, a former Benton Panther and Arkansas Razorback, is the son of Steve and Sherry Lee of Benton. The American League won 4-3 in the 15th inning. The game lasted 4 hours, 50 minutes and ended at 1:37 a.m. Eastern time.
