Special Quorum Court meeting today E-mail
Monday, 04 August 2008
Saline County Quorum Court will meet in special session today following a Finance and Personnel Committee meeting.
The committee meeting will start at 6 p.m. in courtroom 1 at the courthouse in Downtown Benton.
The special Quorum Court meeting is being called to address exempt/nonexempt job positions so the county may more fully comply with the Fair Labor Standards Act.
“Certain positions can be classified as exempt or nonexempt, which can get the county out of overtime provisions of the act,” County Attorney Jonathan Greer said.
The Finance and Personnel Committee requested that Greer and Christy Young, county personnel manager, conduct a review and declare which positions could be considered exempt, Greer said.
As it stands now, the only classified positions include county attorney, personnel manager and coordinator of the Office of Emergency Management.
Nearly all county departments would be affected by this action, Greer said.
Following are positions that are being considered for classification as exempt/nonexempt:
•Administrative assistant, building maintenance supervisor of the county judge’s office.
•Chief deputy-elections of the county clerk’s office.
•Chief deputy circuit clerk and chief deputy recorder of the circuit clerk’s office.
•Chief deputy, captain, patrol lieutenant/commander, Criminal Investigation Division lieutenant of the sheriff’s office.
•Chief deputy collector of the county collector’s office.
•Chief deputy business/personnel and CAMA/real estate, GIS/flood plain coordinator of the county assessor’s office.
•Chief clerk of Benton District Court.
•Comptroller/administrative assistant of the Quorum Court.
•Supervisor of Juvenile Court.
•Office manager/director victim witness of the prosecuting attorney’s office.
