Saline County Quorum Court approved various ordinances Tuesday night to help the county departments operate as needed.
Justices of the peace also approved a measure that will assist residents. A resolution was passed that authorizes County Judge Lanny Fite to apply for a grant on behalf of the Turtle Creek and Salem communities. The grant would be used for weather alert radios. Since October 2006, rural communities have received weather radios, including Crows, Paron, Lonsdale, Traskwood, Sardis and East End. Related to the weather radios, JPs approved an ordinance appropriating $7,539.16 for the voluntary tax warning system for this year. County residents have the option to pay $5 a year for the warning system. In other business, JPs approved the following appropriation ordinances: •$4,085 for plumbing for a generator at the 911 building. •$19,676.24 for the federal arrest and protection grant program. Funds are for the prosecuting attorney’s office, sheriff’s office and Safe Haven women’s shelter. •$22,423.48 for the federal grant to address domestic and sexual violence against women. •$17,216 for another federal grant to address domestic and sexual violence against women. •$14,018 for part-time help in the collector’s office. •$191,000 for the county road fund. •$25,000 for the new sheriff’s administration building. •$300 for Circuit Court-Second and Third division for clothing and allowance. An ordinance transferring $5,383 from the Quorum Court to the maintenance department also was approved.
