Frost Endowment grants announced E-mail
Monday, 29 September 2008
Advisers to the Hazel D. Frost Endowment of the Arkansas Community Foundation have selected this year’s grant recipients.
Hazel Frost was a long-time math teacher in the Benton School System. She died in 1990, and her children established the endowment in her honor, annually making grants to benefit charitable organizations from the fund.
This year grants of $500 each will go to Saline County Single Parent Scholarship Fund, Churches Joint Council on Human Needs and Christian Community Care Clinic.
During its early years, the endowment was used to give scholarships to students from Benton High School. In recent years, grants totaling more than $15,000 have gone to organizations serving the residents of Saline County.
Carol Perry, one of Frost’s daughters, said, “Saline County doesn’t have many sources of small grants for nonprofit groups, so we felt it would be appropriate to begin making grants from Mother’s endowment fund.”
Another of Frost’s daughters, Judy Pridgen, said, “Mother cared deeply for this community and was concerned about the plight of low-income people, especially women and children. She experienced poverty as a young person and knew first-hand what a difficult time families can sometimes face. She was extremely pleased when the fund was established a few years before her death and would be thrilled to know that others will be benefiting from gifts in her name forever.”
Advisers to the endowment are her children, Dr. Larry Frost of Bismarck, Mary Dillard of Farmington, Pridgen and Perry, both of Benton.
The Arkansas Community Foundation provides opportunities for individuals and families to establish endowments to provide a charitable legacy.
Information on the foundation is available by writing the Arkansas Community Foundation, Union Station, Suite 206, 1400 W.
