What was formerly a popular Haunted Hotel in Little Rock has moved on down the road to Bryant and promises to be “intensely scary,” the owners say.
After 7 p.m. at the corner of Arkansas 5 and Springhill Road, one might see numerous monsters, goblins, bloody nurses, villains and other scary creatures gathered around the old feed and farm supply store. For $10 until Oct. 31, a visitor might just get the fright of his or her life throughout the 25 rooms. “Featuring indoor blood pools, midnight red meat buffet, thrills, chills and room service that kills,” a Haunted Hotel flier reads. “Frequent screamer miles accepted, best heart rate in town and where we never leave the lights on!” On the outside of the building, the group gathers in a pre-production prayer circle, but once inside the building, owners Mike and Becky Bolding promise frightening, yet fun, entertainment. “From the front to the back, there isn’t a dull spot inside the Haunted Hotel,” Mike Bolding said. “I don’t think there is a haunted house around here as big as this one. It takes about 25 minutes to go through it and it has around 40 monsters in all. Anyone on TV or in the movies is here, from Chucky, Freddy, Jason, Hellraiser’s Pinhead and more.” The Boldings said it is their years of experience that offer the quality of their haunted show. Mike Bolding said he has been doing haunted houses since he was 14. It started when he and a cousin put one together in an old bar in Pulaski County in the mid-1980s. He said he later put together a haunted house in the old Little Rock Expo Center for two years. “After that we kind of bounced around here and there in Pulaski County,” he said. “For the last several years, we had a popular place on Col. Glenn Road, but we wanted to find a safer area. We found out about this building being for rent and jumped on it.” Mike and Becky Bolding said they rented the building on Sept. 1 and worked for a month straight with six family members and friends, investing more than $10,000. The Haunted Hotel has around 45 employees, in-cluding Kathy Bolding, who runs a concession stand on the property. The Haunted Hotel is located at 3600 Arkansas 5 at the corner of Springhill Road in Bryant. A guided tour is presented from 7 to 10 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and from 7 p.m. until “the last person leaves” on Friday and Saturday through Oct. 31. Admission is $10. The house is handicap- and wheelchair-accessible. Sponsors of the Haunted Hotel are Kathy’s Bail Bonds in Little Rock and Spirit Halloween of Little Rock.
