Saline County Quorum Court today will consider appropriating funds to enable the county Airport Commission to acquire administrative help.
Justices of the peace will consider the airport ordinance and others when they meet at 6:30 p.m. in courtroom 1 at the courthouse in Downtown Benton. The airport ordinance proposes a $2,050 line-item transfer from health insurance to fund a salary for a commission administrative assistant. Also, $728 would be appropriated for employee benefits. Commission Chairman Mark Westbrook said the commission wants to have someone responsible for billing an day-to-day operations at the Saline County Regional Airport. “We’re getting new hangars and there are new regulations we’re going by because we’re doing more work [than we did at the old airport],” he said. Current airport work includes moving dirt for the Instrument Landing System, Westbrook said. “We should be finished with that by end of the year,” he said. “Once we get the dirt moved, the Federal Aviation Administration will come in and set up antennaes and get ILS up and running. It should be commissioned by December 2009.” ILS gives pilots the technology to land at the airport in case of inclement weather rather than relying on a site landing, Westbrook said. In other business, JPs will consider the following: •An ordinance appropriating $650 for Christmas lights for the Celebration of Lights event. •An ordinance appropriating $1,148.83 for travel reimbursement from Arkansas Department of Emergency Management for the county’s Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program. •An ordinance transferring $5,980 from District Court-Benton Division for part-time bailiff help in Circuit Court-First Division. •An emergency ordinance to disburse funds received under Act 799 of 2003 for fish and wildlife conservation or other lawful purposes. Each school district in the county receives funds from the total $4,829.50 received Saline County has received from the Arkansas Department of Education.
