Assistant will be hired at airport E-mail
Wednesday, 19 November 2008
Saline County Regional Airport near Bryant will have an administrative assistant.
The Quorum Court on Tuesday night approved an ordinance to fund the position through the county Airport Commission.
Justices of the Peace met at the courthouse in Downtown Benton.
Salary for the administrative assistant will be about $25,000 annually. JPs also appropriated $728 for employee benefits for the position.
The position is needed to handle administrative tasks related to all the work going on at the new airport, commission Chairman Mark Westbrook said.
Current work involves moving dirt for an Instrument Landing System, which Westbrook said will give pilots the enhanced technology needed to land during inclement weather.
In other business, JPs approved an ordinance appropriating $3,405.87 in donations for the annual Celebration of Lights event, which this year begins Monday, Dec. 1.
JPs also approved an ordinance appropriating $1,148.83 for travel reimbursement from the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management for the county’s Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program.
JPs approved another ordinance transferring $5,980 from District Court-Benton Division to Circuit Court-First Division for part-time bailiff help.
The emergency ordinance to disburse funds received under Act 799 of 2003 for fish and wildlife conservation or other lawful purposes was approved.
Each school district in the county receives funds from the $4,829.50 received from the Arkansas Department of Education. Bauxite School District receives $477.06; Benton, $1,515.84; Bryant, $2,508.68; and Harmony Grove, $327.92.
The Quorum Court approved the re-appointment of Wilson Duvall to the Shaw Community Water and Sewer Public Facilities Board.
A total of $5,750 was transferred from the tax assessor department’s postage and capital outlay-machines fund to part-time help. Also, $1,560 was transferred from the tax assessor department’s GIS, small equipment, fund to part-time help.
For the maintenance department, $1,850 was appropriated for vehicle repairs.
