Marjorie Marie Brashears Jones E-mail
Monday, 01 December 2008

Marjorie Marie Brashears Jones, age 86, of Little Rock, went to be with her Lord, Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock.
Mrs. Jones grew up on a farm in Brush Creek in Grant County, Ark. As a child, she learned to play the piano. She and her sisters would walk to school every day, which was two and half miles away. She helped her family on the farm. At age 16, Mrs. Jones met her husband and got married on Dec. 25, 1941. Mrs. Jones attended Henderson Brown Teachers College. At that time, she had a job teaching school at Lono in Hot Springs County, Ark., making $45 a month. In or about 1947, Mr. and Mrs. Jones moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, for four years and then moved to Benton, Ark. There, the Jones bought a Texaco service station on South Street in Benton, Ark. The couple ran the station for 10 years. In 1953, the couple decided to build a second Texaco service station. Subsequently, they developed K Mobile Home Park Community at the Pulaski and Saline County line with very little money and not much help. Special thanks for the help of their sons, Mike and Garry Jones and son-in-law, Terry Steed, for their efforts over the past years to help make it a great success. Mrs. Jones was a member of Geyers Springs First Baptist Church of Little Rock.
The family wants to give thanks to Dr. Marianne Harrington and the staff of Baptist Health Medical Center.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Willie Aaron Jones; her parents, Maynard and Evola Crow Brashears of Brush Brush Creek, Grant County, Ark.; and her brother, Donald Brashears of Brush Creek.
She is survived by her two sisters, Sudie Brashears Lamb of Leola, Ark., and Rosalie Brashears Walker of Little Rock; her two sons, Garry Don Jones and wife Mamie of Bryant, Mike Jones and wife Nancy of Little Rock and her daughter, Beverly Steed and husband Terry of Bryant. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Aliza Jones of Fort Smith, Ark., Ashley Jones of Euless, Texas, Sarah Cushman of Jupiter, Fla., Aaron Jones, of Benton, Ark., Stacy Hazell, of Benton, Ark., Shelly Arnold of Benton, Ark. and Stephanie Steed of Bryant, Ark. She is survived by seven great-grandchildren, Blake Holland and Alek Plunkett of Euless, Texas, Andrew and Joe Jones of Benton, Ark., Allison and Olivia Cushman of Jupiter, Fla., and Henry W. Hazell of Benton, Ark. She was also stepgreat-grandmother to Aubrey Arnold of Benton, Ark. Mrs. Jones also had a host of family and friends throughout her life, including her special friend, Nina Deadman.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, at Ashby Funeral Home in Benton, Ark., with burial at Brush Creek Cemetery in Grant County. Minister will be the Rev. David Bond.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, at Ashby Funeral Home.
The family requests that memorials be made to Brush Creek Cemetery Fund, 1012 Mt. Zion Road, Malvern, AR 72104.
