Winchester Road to close for work E-mail
Wednesday, 03 December 2008
Winchester Road in Benton will be closed Friday through Monday for some repair work, city officials announced.
The roadway, located near Benton’s Curtis Fire Station, was not properly “crowned” when it was built, according to Alderman David Sparks, who chairs the council’s Street Committee.
“We’ve been waiting on the contractor to correct this, and it’s taken some time,” Sparks said.
“At the time the road was built, it did not receive a proper crown,” he said. “Because of this, instead of water flowing to the ditches, it has flowed to the middle of the roadway.”
The work being done this week is to correct this situation, Sparks said.
“They have to mill it one day, then add asphalt on the second day,” he said. “After that,  it should be completely finished and opened to traffic.”
Martin Marietta Materials was in charge of the road project.
Mayor Rick Holland apologized to local residents for the inconvenience .
