The Lake Norrell community is asking for help from surrounding areas in an effort to make Christmas better for some county residents.
The community is sponsoring a Christmas food drive from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Lake Norrell Community Center. “This will not be restricted to only people giving or receiving here at Lake Norrell,” said organizer Barbara Howell, a county justice of the peace. “The items will be donated to those in need in Saline County for Christmas.” Food, clothing and new toys will be accepted. Free hot dogs and drinks will be offered to anyone who stops by to donate items. “Christmas is a time for giving, so be sure and come out to help the less fortunate,” Howell said. For those who would like to donate early, contact Rick Brant at 258-3832. Brant will be serving the free refreshments on the day of the event. Noting this is the first communitywide effort, Howell added that Brant has raised money for those in need at the Lake Norrell deer camp for years. In addition to this drive, there are numerous other organizations seeking contributions this time of year. Some of them include Churches Joint Council on Human Needs; Habitat for Humanity of Saline County; Boys and Girls Club, both in Benton and Bryant; Shop with a Cop program; Saline County Salvation Army; and many more. These organizations may be contacted for more detailed information on how to contribute.
