Some area residents without power E-mail
Tuesday, 06 January 2009
About 1,000 people in the Benton area remained without power this morning, Entergy Arkansas spokes-man James Thompson said.
Constant rain on Monday left trees encapsulated in ice and pulled down limbs onto power lines. Statewide, about 9,500 homes and business were without electricity.
In Haskell, power was out for sometime Monday, Mayor Jeff Arey said. But it was restored after about 30 minutes. A news station had reported that 4,000 were without power in Alexander. A City Hall representative said this morning, however, that everything was back to normal.
In more remote areas of Saline County, such as Tadlock Circle, which is near Alexander, power wasn’t expected to be restored until later today, a caller reported this morning.
Thompson said most of the reported outages came from southwest Little Rock. He said Monday night crews were working “as fast” as possible to restore power.
The roads fared well compared to freezing rain storms of the past, County Road Superintendent Mark Westbrook said. “A couple big trees were down on Atwood, Bauxite Pump, Ghraham Cemetery roads, but we mostly had limbs down,” he said.
“We have quite a few crews going around cutting limbs, but the roads are passable.”
“We’re doing good,” he added. “Temperature stayed on our side.”
David Hannah of First Electric Cooperative Corp. reported today that 3,000 customers lost electrical power Monday. He said most power had been restored by today.
"We hit our peak of 3,000 customers out yesterday around 2 p.m.," he said. "We're seeing one or two houses go out at a time, but we're working hard to get everyone back on."
